"European Art Display, Titled 'The Art of Europe', Held at Gütersloh Town Hall"

The city of Gütersloh, Germany, is playing host to a unique exhibition that aims to symbolise culture as a bridge for European unity. The 'Art of Europe' exhibition, which is part of Gütersloh's anniversary celebrations, '200 years of Gütersloh', is taking place at the city hall forum and is free for all visitors.

The exhibition invites viewers to shift perspectives and see how art can bridge European unity. It is the brainchild of the C-City cultural network, a network that brings together actors from Gütersloh's partner cities to implement creative projects and joint cultural initiatives. The organiser of the C-City cultural network is the Kulturnetzwerk C-City.

The exhibition features works by artists from Gütersloh's partner cities, including Swedish artist Nina Edling and Polish street artist SOMEART. Edling's intricate woodcut and linocut pieces explore themes of humans and nature, inner reflection, and the longing for closeness and security. SOMEART's works, such as his 'Friendly Faces' series, push genre boundaries and portray diverse subjects in a comic-like style.

British artists represented in the exhibition include photographer Lesley Grand-Scrutton, artist Jane Shipton, and illustrator and designer Toby Anderton. Anderton's work, 'Europe together', a schematic map of Europe with adjacent countries, is a clear statement of the artist's support for Europe.

French photographer Bruno Dewaele's contributions to the exhibition take viewers on a visual journey through Europe, combining details and architectural images in a filmstrip-like manner. Contemporary art with local connections by artists from Broxtowe (UK), Châteauroux (FR), Falun (SE), and Grudziądz (PL) are also on display.

The vernissage for the exhibition took place on Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, with both Nina Edling and SOMEART, who hails from the partner city of Grudziądz, attending the event. The exhibition can be visited from September to the end of October during the opening hours of Gütersloh city hall, and during events at the city hall and by appointment.

Artworks in the exhibition range from photography to intricate prints, offering a diverse and immersive experience for all visitors. Don't miss this opportunity to witness the power of art in fostering unity and understanding among European nations. The 'Art of Europe' exhibition is a must-visit for art enthusiasts and those interested in promoting European unity.
