In a unique environmental initiative during Bada Mangal, a community event in Lucknow, a bhandara in Bazarkhala distributed seed balls composed of cow dung and soil, promoting the growth of trees as well as traditional food offerings.

The seed balls, encompassing seeds from various tree species such as neem, banyan, and gular, were distributed alongside conventional poori-sabzi. Devotees eagerly gathered the seed balls near the Bazarkhala police station.

Alok Gupta, the organizer of the bhandara, shared that he had distributed more than 10,000 seed balls during the three Bada Mangal celebrations this year. He explained that seed balls are a cost-effective and convenient alternative to saplings, making it easier for devotees to contribute to a greener surroundings.

The seed balls are packed in compact polybags for easy transportation, and are prepared in Gupta's home with the assistance of his entire family. The seed balls, incorporating cow dung as a natural fertilizer, are an innovative contribution to environmental conservation efforts in the city.

The use of seed balls during Bada Mangal fosters community engagement, environmental awareness, and contributes to maintaining ecological balance and promoting biodiversity. This creative approach to planting trees serves as a model for other environmental initiatives in Lucknow and beyond.
