The city of Düsseldorf, Germany, is set to host the "Blossoming District 2025" competition, an initiative aimed at promoting urban greening and innovative green projects within the city. This competition encourages residents and communities to contribute to the transformation of urban spaces by adding greenery and sustainable elements to the local environment.

Citizens can participate by developing and submitting concepts or projects aimed at greening buildings, public spaces, or neighbourhoods. The competition is open to all citizens who have a garden, balcony, or even a tree pit in the districts of Golzheim, Derendorf, Pempelfort, the old town, Carlstadt, or the city center.

The competition focuses on sustainability but also promotes a blossoming neighbourhood. It honours gardens, tree pits, or balconies that are most welcoming to insects in the mentioned districts. The jury, consisting of District Mayor Annette Klinke, Tobias Krause, Björn Korff, Christoph Linke, and spokespeople of the local group 1 of the GREENS in Düsseldorf, will decide the winners.

The awards ceremony will take place on August 2, 2025, at 3 pm. The 1st prize winners will receive 2 tickets each for the IDO Festival by Dr. Frederike Möller. The 2nd prize winners will receive a gift card each from Die Kaffee. The 3rd prize winners will receive a gift card each from Bäcker Schüren, and the 4th prize winners will receive a gift card each from Blüten & Meer.

Tree pits have their own category in the competition, and a tree sponsorship is recommended. The competition runs until July 15, 2025. For more information and registration, interested citizens can visit www.gruene-stadtmitte.de.
