Dusseldorf's "Diversity" queer day care center receives sponsorship from the KG Rainbow organization.
In a groundbreaking move, the KG Regenbogen, an LGBTQ+ Carnival Club in Düsseldorf, has taken on the patronage of Tagespflege Vielfalt, a day care center catering to seniors aged 55 and above who require care at level 2 or higher. Located at Pariser Str. 97a in Heerdt, Tagespflege Vielfelt operates Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, and offers both daily and temporary visits, as well as a pick-up service for those unable to travel.
The partnership between the two organisations is a significant step towards creating a more inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ seniors in Düsseldorf. Norman Sandrock, chairman of the KG Regenbogen, emphasised the importance of mutual respect in diversity and tolerance at every stage of life. Andreas Mauska, president of KG Regenbogen, is also deeply involved in this project.
Tagespflege Vielfalt prides itself on being a safe space for older queer individuals, and the Diakonie in Heerdt, which opened the day care center, aims to address the specific needs of older people under the rainbow. Dietmar Saxler, the project leader of Tagespflege Vielfalt, underscored this commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Activities at Tagespflege Vielfalt are designed to combat loneliness in old age and celebrate diversity. They include social support groups specifically for LGBTQ+ older adults, activities and events that celebrate diversity and LGBTQ+ history, and counseling and guidance on health, legal, and social issues affecting LGBTQ+ elders. Members of the KG Regenbogen will accompany future activities of the day care center and ensure they gain visibility.
