New Dresden Stollenmaid Nelly Köhler to Auction Portrait for a Good Cause

Nelly Köhler, the 29th Dresden Stollenmaid, has taken on her new role as the official ambassador of the traditional Dresden Christmas Stollen. The 17-year-old baker-in-training from Dresden, on the Elbe River, expressed her love for the city's art, cultural treasures, and enchanting places during her presentation on Tuesday.

Before taking office, Nelly Köhler was artistically immortalized by Nadine Wölk, who created a ballpoint pen drawing of the new Stollenmaid. The portrait will be auctioned off during the season for a good cause.

As the Stollenmaid, Nelly Köhler will promote the Dresden Stollen regionally and participate in various festive events. She will also engage with the public and media, helping to celebrate and maintain the customs surrounding this iconic holiday treat.

Throughout her term, Nelly Köhler is expected to have approximately 50 mandatory appointments. In her free time, she enjoys painting watercolors, recently focusing on abstract landscapes.

The Dresden Stollenmaid position has been in existence since 1995, and the applicants must have good grades in vocational school, excellent professional knowledge, and a great passion for Dresden's number one Christmas cake. Nelly Köhler, with her second year of baker training and love for the Dresden Christstollen, is a perfect fit for the role.

The origins of the ITB travel fair date back to the 14th century, and Nelly Köhler will promote the traditional Dresden Stollen at events like the Green Week and the ITB travel fair. The Dresden Stollenmaid's role is both ceremonial and promotional, emphasizing the historical and culinary significance of the Dresden Stollen.
