Dorthausen honors its artillery division for eight to eleven days starting from the 8th of August.
The St. Vitus Shooting Brotherhood Grefrath-Oedt is gearing up for its annual celebration from August 1st to August 4th. This four-day event promises a blend of tradition, community spirit, and lively festivities.
August 1st (Thursday):
The celebration kicks off with a meeting of the Schützenbruderschaft (shooting brotherhood) at the clubhouse at 7:00 PM, followed by a social gathering and preliminary festivities in the evening.
August 2nd (Friday):
The official opening of the celebration takes place at 6:00 PM. The evening sees a festive parade through Grefrath-Oedt, a dance and music program at the festival tent, and a senior celebration in the festival tent from 2 PM, featuring coffee, cake, and entertainment by DJ Dirk Heinrich.
August 3rd (Saturday):
Traditional shooting competitions begin for members and guests in the morning. The afternoon is filled with family activities and a children's program. The evening brings a concert or live music performance, followed by a social evening for participants and the community.
August 4th (Sunday):
Religious services in honour of St. Vitus take place at the wayside cross at 10:00 AM. The midday grand parade features all participants in traditional attire. The afternoon sees the final shooting competitions and award ceremonies. The evening concludes with closing festivities, including music and dancing.
Other highlights include the "Great Tattoo" at the wayside cross (Christophorusstraße) at 6 PM on Saturday, wreath-laying ceremonies at 4:45 PM (Chapel Kothausen) and 5:30 PM (Chapel Dorthausen) on Saturday, and a pleasant breakfast with honours in the festival tent after the Sunday parade.
On Monday, the wooden shoe ball in the festival tent takes place after the wooden shoe parade, and the king's bird shot takes place at around 2 PM next to the festival tent. The parade for various shooting brotherhoods will take place near the wayside cross at an unspecified time on Sunday, while the wooden shoe parade takes place at 12 PM on Monday.
The parade for the Guest brotherhoods Hehn, Rheindahlen, Gunhoven, and guests of the St. Notburgas Shooting Brotherhood Viersen - Rahser 1705 e.V., St. Nepomuk Brotherhood Ungerath, St. Josef Brotherhood Venn will take place at Sitterhof at 6 PM on Sunday.
The music for the events is provided by the party band Roland Brüggen, DJ Dirk Heinrich, and DJ Alex "K", with the wooden shoe ball on Monday being entertained by DJ Dirk Heinrich.
