"Detmold's Clean-Up Campaign" or "Cleaning up Detmold: A Community Effort"

In the city of Detmold, a new initiative has been launched to enhance the cleanliness and overall user experience of public spaces. The city has introduced new signs, designed to remind dog owners to dispose of their pets' waste properly.

These signs, which can be found in the Friedrichstal park area and some parts of the city centre, are not prohibition or command signs, but rather a friendly reminder for better coexistence among citizens. The signs have been designed with charming motifs that draw attention to the sensitive issue, aiming to help solve or at least reduce the problem of dog messes in public spaces, including parks, squares, and children's playgrounds.

The signs were developed in collaboration with cartoonist André Sedlaczek, known for his whimsical and engaging style. The initiative is part of a broader effort to address the issue of dog messes in public spaces in Detmold, with more locations in particularly affected areas, neighbourhood parks, and green connections near playgrounds set to follow.

Despite the widespread "bag culture," there are still dog owners who do not properly dispose of their pets' waste. These improper disposals can result in others stepping in the waste and finding it unpleasant. The new signs are intended to address this issue and encourage responsible pet ownership.

Interestingly, the concept for these signs originated from the city of Hamburg, where similar display boards have been successfully implemented. The hope is that, with these friendly reminders, Detmold's public spaces will become cleaner and more enjoyable for all its citizens and visitors.
