Despite concerns about ongoing construction in Midtown, Atlanta Pride assures participants that the October 12 parade will proceed as planned.
The Atlanta Pride Festival is set to celebrate its 55th anniversary next month, and organisers have reassured festivalgoers that the Pride Parade route will not be impacted, despite ongoing sewer repairs in the fast-growing Midtown area.
City officials are conducting emergency work to expand sewer capacity in the bustling district. Construction crews are replacing old sewer lines along 10th Street between Piedmont and Juniper, causing lane closures. This work could last through late October, depending on the weather.
Eastbound traffic on 10th Street NE will be detoured at Juniper Street NE, with one eastbound travel lane on 10th Street NE remaining open to traffic except for one block between Juniper Street NE and Piedmont Avenue NE. Westbound travel lanes on 10th Street NE heading toward Peachtree Street NE will be reduced to one lane.
Businesses in the area, including Lucero Martinez's Zocalo Mexican restaurant, are advising customers to plan ahead due to the construction. Martinez, a co-owner of the restaurant, is experiencing the impact of the construction and is hopeful that her establishment will be clear for Atlanta Pride.
City officials have assured Pride organisers that all repairs will be completed before the festival, which is scheduled for October 11-12 in Piedmont Park. The Shaky Knees Music Festival is taking place in the park this weekend, but organisers have reported no disruptions due to the sewer repairs.
Despite the ongoing construction, the Atlanta Pride Festival continues to communicate with the City of Atlanta regarding the sewer repairs, ensuring a smooth event for all attendees. Festivalgoers are encouraged to leave 15 minutes earlier to make appointments on time, as suggested by hairstylist Charlotte Roxanne.
The Atlanta Pride Festival is a significant event in the city's calendar, attracting thousands of visitors each year. With the repairs scheduled to be completed before the festival, organisers are confident that it will be a successful and memorable event for all attendees.
