Cuban Dinner and Live Music at Revolution de Cuba Derby
Hey there! On our trek back from Alton Towers, we sometimes swing by a eatery, and this time was no exception. My ol' mate Dann picked a spot named Revolucion de Cuba Derby. It's got an enticing mix of tantalizing tacos, scrumptious small plates, a zippy kid's menu, and groovy drinks he reckoned I'd dig. With our stomachs rumbling, we dived into the adventure, ordering a smorgasbord of dishes, and boy, did we feast!
About mid-dinner, a vivacious live band strolled in and belted out phenomenal tunes, which was a fantastic surprise and true highlight of our day. Now, let's dig into the delectables we devoured!
Jamón Croquetas, Crispy Pork Belly & Cuban Fries
When we try out new restaurants, we usually order a sizzling assortment of appetizers so everyone can savor something new. Thus, we snagged some jamon croquetas, a yummy fusion of mashed potatoes and ham, coated in breadcrumbs, then fried to golden brown perfection. The kiddos were ecstatic to see these familiar favorites again! We also ordered some Cuban fries, dusted with cheese, seasoned to the nines, and Robin ended up gobbling up more of them than her regular fries! We also tossed in some Crispy Pork Belly. I wasn't too thrilled about the pork belly, but Dann savored every bite. I suspect it was that rum and fennel sauce that was a bit too much for my taste – but the gang did give it a whirl.
Build Your Own Taco Kid's Meal and Mushroom Tacos
Robin fancied herself two types of tacos, but I knew she wouldn't be keen on the second one. Still, we always encourage her to give new things a try, so she went with the chicken build-your-own tacos, complete with fries and beans, as well as a petite portion of Mushroom Tacos. Her DIY tacos were a blast, with cheese, tortillas, salsa, and moist chicken. The mushroom tacos were deep-fried and came with an intriguing gravy dip. Robin made a brave attempt at them, but ended up concluding the chicken was her favorite, and she devoured it all up.
Slow-Cooked Pulled Beef Burrito & Slow-Cooked Pulled Beef Burrito Bowl
Our mains at Revolucion de Cuba Derby featured two beefy delights - Amelia dived headfirst into the Pulled Beef Burrito, heaped with zesty salsa on top, creamy guac on the side, and a mountain of chips. She relished every bite and eagerly polished it off. Kai opted for the same beef burrito in bowl form, paired with a Cuban salad and some Revolucion de Cuba Derby house coleslaw. Kai was stuffed to the brim and loved the freshness of the salad dressing.
Beef Ropa Vieja & Cuban Style Seabass
I opted for the Beef Ropa Vieja, a stunning dish with succulent slow-cooked beef, delightfully prepared plantains, and just the right amount of rice. Dann sipped on his Cuban Style Seabass, which he raved about for its perfect cook and tantalizing seasoning. It was served with a side of broccoli and rice – we were all pretty ravenous, so we really savored every morsel.
Chocolate Caramel Brownie, Churros, and Drinks
By the time desserts were served, everyone was pretty stuffed. Kai had left some room for sweet treats, Robin had churros included in her meal, and the staff even gave us two free churros for dining with them, as a promotional offer. These churros smothered in strawberry sauce were the same ones that Robin had ordered, with a vibrant and gooey sauce. Amelia and I scooped up a few bites of the churros, and Robin demolished hers. Kai enjoyed the rich chocolate caramel brownie, though it was rather indulgent and he downed quite a few glasses of water alongside it. To be honest, I can't recall the names of the two drinks I belted back - one was tangy and delicious, while the other was intense and captivating.
We had an absolute blast at Revolucion de Cuba Derby. Although it feels more like a boisterous bar initially, then a restaurant, the food is truly mind-blowing. I adored the live music and dancing, as well as the various specials and deals they flaunted. It seems like a rip-roaring fun spot to catch up with friends and indulge in some exotic grub.
