Commemoration Day Open to All Mourners (October 14)
In the heart of medieval Vilsbiburg, exciting archaeological excavations are currently underway. This historic town, located in the district of Landshut, Germany, is rich in monuments and is set to unveil a piece of its 800-year history.
The local history association Vilsbiburg will present its research findings, with a focus on nutrition in medieval Vilsbiburg. The public is invited to learn about the daily lives of the town's inhabitants during that period.
For those interested in art, a visit to Haus Ganslberg in Altdorf is a must. Although the artist residing there in 2023 remains unnamed, the house—formerly the residence and studio of Fritz Koenig—has been revitalised for artistic use.
Vilsbiburg is also offering a unique opportunity for cultural exploration. Admission and tours are free, and parking spaces are available at the large Faerberanger parking lot. The town will also present plans for the development of the Faerberanger area.
On the Day of Open Heritage, the excavation site will be accessible to the public from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This event, one of Germany's largest cultural events, organised by the German Foundation for Monument Protection since 1993, is not to be missed.
In addition, the Lower Heritage Protection Authority of the Landshut district will present various heritage protection projects in the Vilsbiburg old town through a poster exhibition.
Public tours will be offered at 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM. So, mark your calendars and join us in Vilsbiburg for a journey through time!
