Celebrating 100 Years of the Charles Dickens Museum with the Dickens Clan
Commemorate a Century at the Charles Dickens Museum: Join the Dickens Family in Honoring the Legendary Novelist's Legacy
Y'all better mark your calendars for June 9, 2025, as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Charles Dickens Museum in London with a slap-up bash!
On this very special day, not only will we honor the 155th anniversary of Dickens's demise, but we'll also be opening a brand-new special exhibit, showcasing some downright scrumptious, never-before-seen goodies.
Here's a lowdown on what you can expect:
Stuff to Get Excited About
- Freebie Daze: Wave those entrance fees goodbye! The museum will be welcoming one and all from 10 am to 6 pm (last call at 5 pm), a rare exception to its usual Monday closing times[1][3][5].
- Leech onto the Dickens Family: Gerald Dickens, great-great-grandson of the legendary scribe, will enlighten us on how his ancestor managed to pull through the Staplehurst train crash, which ultimately sparked the ghost story "The Signalman"[2]. Want more deets on our globetrotting author? Look no further than Lucinda Dickens Hawkesley, great-great-great-granddaughter, who'll dish on Dickens's international jaunts[2]. Fancy a good ol' fashioned reading? Mark Dickens and Ian Dickens, great-great grandsons, will be reading from "A Christmas Carol" and "David Copperfield," respectively[2]. And let's not forget Ollie Dickens, great-great-great-grandson, who'll be giving us a taste of "Oliver Twist" right in the room where it first came to life[2].
- Treasure Hunt: Prepare to get your curiosity on, as we unveil a terrific new exhibit featuring recently acquired, previously unseen curios devoted to ol' Charles Dickens[2].
Stuff Worth a Mention
- Back in 1925, on June 9, 55 years after the author's passing, a whopping crowd of folk swarmed 48, Doughty Street, the only home he kept as his success rose[6]. Sounds a bit like Dickens's own scenes, eh?

A Few Words from Annunciata Elwes
Annunciata, a Lancashire gal, settled in Hampshire with a hubby, couple of daughters, and a snaggle-toothed pug named Parsley. Spending more than a decade cruising around the our platform office, she scored the Property Magazine of the Year Award in 2022 (Property Press Awards). Before she waltzed into our offices, she dabbled in writing fiction for The Sunday Times Travel Magazine and was shuffling papers for our platform's publisher (once known as IPC Media)[5]. Annunciata was also in charge of editing, and when she wasn't doing that, she guided tours around a 17th-century Milton Manor, Oxfordshire (perhaps a Jones creation), and co-founded a literary, art, and music fest, with Johnny Flynn cracking the stage[5]. Apart from her editing gig, Annunciata doubles as a TIN MAN ART director, founded by her husband, James Elwes in 2021.
