Closures on the main roads in Mainz have been enforced.
In the coming weeks, several road closures and traffic disruptions are expected to affect commuters and visitors in Mainz, Germany. Here's a summary of the planned works and detours:
- Alicenbrücke at Mainz Central Station: Since early July, restrictions have been in place for motorists and public transport due to the expansion of the tram line. After the summer holidays, two lanes in each direction can be reopened, but there will still be restrictions for public transport until the end of October.
- A63 at Mainz-Süd: Construction work on the A63 will begin after 4th August and last until 20th September. During this time, the on-ramp from the A60 towards Bingen to the A63 towards Kaiserslautern will be closed. For A63 traffic coming from the A60 towards Bingen and wanting to join the A63 towards Kaiserslautern, the detour will be via the Mainz-Lerchenberg interchange.
- Rheinallee: Starting from 4th August, one lane on Rheinallee near the CDU party headquarters in Mainz's Neustadt will be closed for construction work on a new district heating connection. Initially, traffic will be guided single-file past the construction site, with a second lane becoming available from 18th August.
- Cycling Routes: Cyclists coming from the north will be directed onto Rheinstraße at the corner of Uferstraße/Templerstraße, then left onto Dagobertstraße, continuing onto Malakoff-Terrasse/Winterhafen, and then onto the official cycle path. A detour will be in place, leading cyclists around the Hyatt Regency Mainz and temporarily closing one lane on Rheinstraße.
- Mainz-Hechtsheim Motorway Tunnel: Some lanes in the Mainz-Hechtsheim motorway tunnel will be closed at night from 4th August to 8th August, and 11th August to 15th August, for cleaning and maintenance work. During these night-time closures, two out of three lanes will be closed, but the main tunnel can still be used in both directions.
- Essenheimer Straße: Essenheimer Straße in Mainz-Bretzenheim will be fully closed from 4th August to approximately 30th November. The affected section is at house number 92, near the corner of An der Oberpforte. Pedestrians and cyclists will have a detour for the entire duration of the construction work.
- Marienborner Street and surrounding areas: Vehicles and cyclists will be rerouted via Marienborner Street, Am Heckerpfad, and An der Oberpforte. Additionally, one-way traffic on Am Heckerpfad will be suspended. Pedestrians can bypass the construction site on the opposite sidewalk.
- Rheinstraße in Mainz's Altstadt: From 7th to 9th August, there will be restrictions on cycling along Rheinstraße due to the "Summer in the City" concert series.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on road closures and traffic disruptions in Mainz and the specified locations, it is recommended to consult the official Mainz city traffic or transportation website, local traffic authorities, or navigation services that provide live traffic updates. Local or regional government sources typically publish detailed notices about planned roadworks, highway maintenance, bridge closures, and tunnel works.
Despite the numerous traffic disruptions in Mainz, it's crucial to remember that home-and-garden projects can still progress. For instance, during the A63 closure from 4th August to 20th September, it might be the perfect opportunity to focus on a lifestyle improvement project at home, such as landscaping the garden or renovating a room.
While figuring out detours for the construction work on Rheinallee near the CDU party headquarters, one could also consider repurposing materials, like leftover bricks or building supplies, in a DIY home improvement project.
