City Symphonies: Melodies by the Buddenbrooks - Literary Concert on September 27 at Church Zum Heilsbrunnen
On Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 7:00 PM, the Evangelical Church Zum Heilsbrunnen in the Hebborn district will host a unique event. Sibylle Bertsch and Cosmin Boeru, renowned actress and pianist respectively, are presenting a new literary concert titled 'Music with the Buddenbrooks.' This concert is based on Thomas Mann's Nobel Prize-winning work, 'The Buddenbrooks.' The music featured in the concert will not only play a part in the novel but also in Mann's life. The event is part of the 'Sounds of the City' series, a collaboration between Literaturkonzert Köln and Wir für Bergisch Gladbach e.V.
Ingrid Schaeffer-Rahtgens and Ingrid Koshofer, the event organizers, have already presented three successful events with Sibylle Bertsch and Cosmin Boeru. This is the fourth event by Bertsch and Boeru in collaboration with the organizers.
Cosmin Boeru, a pianist who graduated with distinction from the Conservatorio B. Marcello in Venice in 1999, has given several concerts and recitals with young talents as part of 'Sounds of the City.' He currently teaches at the renowned Cologne University of Music and Dance.
Sibylle Bertsch, an actress trained at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts, will read excerpts from the book to illustrate the power and impact of music in 'The Buddenbrooks.' Music plays a significant role in the novel, sparking various emotions within the Buddenbrook family.
