City of Taipei claims the top spot in ranking of cities with greatest longevity appeal
Taipei Tops 2025 Gensler "City Pulse" Survey for Global Staying Power
Taipei, the vibrant capital city of Taiwan, has made a significant leap in the global urban landscape, according to the latest 2025 Gensler "City Pulse" survey. The city ranked first among 65 cities worldwide, with an impressive 64% of respondents expressing a strong desire to stay, the highest staying power score globally [1][2].
The survey, which was conducted annually starting from 2023, measures a city's staying power based on residents' intentions to remain, influenced by both practical and intangible factors. These factors include affordability, safety, healthcare, as well as inspiring pride, moments of joy, and a true sense of belonging within the community [1].
Family-focused features, such as quality local schools, sports facilities, recreational areas, and social connections, also significantly contribute to residents' decisions to stay, particularly for families [3].
While Taipei did not lead in resident satisfaction, ranking 14th with 80% of respondents saying they were "satisfied" or "very satisfied" [2], it excelled in all eight key indicators, including economic strength, peace and stability, vibrancy, climate preparedness, improving quality of life, investing in neighborhoods, addressing homelessness, and reducing crime [2].
Interestingly, respondents in the Asia-Pacific region were the least likely to leave their city, with only 29% expressing a desire to move [2]. Cities like Athens, however, had a lower satisfaction rate, with only 44% of respondents saying they were satisfied [2]. Notably, Taipei, Ho Chi Minh City, Shanghai, Singapore, and Riyadh were nearly tied for the lowest average likelihood of leaving [2].
The 2023 survey marked the first time Taipei was included in the survey [2]. The city's impressive performance in the 2025 survey underscores its growing appeal as a desirable city to live in, not just for Taiwanese residents but for people worldwide.

In light of Taipei's top ranking in the 2025 Gensler "City Pulse" survey, focusing on home-and-garden projects that promote sustainable-living could further boost its appeal as a desirable city for families seeking a quality lifestyle. The city's notable strengths, such as economic stability, safety, and investments in neighborhoods, could be complemented by eco-friendly initiatives, creating a thriving, family-oriented, and sustainable community.
