Title: Keep an Eye on the Skies: Berliners Called to Participate in City-wide Bird Count

Hey there!

Are you a bird lover living in Berlin? Or perhaps someone curious to learn more about the avian life in the city? If so, here's a chance for you to contribute to a unique event! The Nature Conservation Union Germany (NABU) and the Bavarian Nature Conservation Association LBV have invited the public to participate in the "Hour of Garden Birds" from May 9 to 11.

This action aims to count the various bird species that inhabit Berlin, and your help is needed! According to NABU Berlin, you might spot the chaffinch, known for its red face and yellow wing stripes, or the redstart with its iconic wagging red tail, in the city center. Don't forget to keep an eye out for common birds like sparrows or pigeons too!

Last year, over 36,000 birds were counted in the city.

So, how can you get involved? It's simple! Observe birds from a peaceful spot in your garden, park, or even from a window, and make a note of the highest number of each species you see within an hour. You can submit your results via the internet, app, or post. The nature conservation associations hope to gather insights into current bird-related trends in the city, complementing official population data. Last year, around 1,980 people participated in Berlin and submitted their findings.

Fancy joining some excursions during the counting weekend? Berlin's NABU groups are hosting events: The Lichtenberg district group will be counting on May 11 at 9:00 AM in the Wartenberger field, while children and their parents can join an event on May 10 at 2:00 PM in the Rummelsburger Bay.
