betahaus Hamburg Celebrates 15 Years of Coworking Growth
betahaus Hamburg, a pioneer in the German coworking scene, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. The company, founded by Bettina Heick and Manuela Bauer in 2010, has grown significantly, expanding its spaces and contributing to the city's startup ecosystem.
betahaus Hamburg began modestly in 2010, opening its doors in a 250 sqm space. The founders, Bettina Heick and Manuela Bauer, laid the groundwork for coworking in Germany, following the first official coworking space, The Spiral Muse, in San Francisco in 2005.
In 2013, betahaus Hamburg faced insolvency but turned it into an opportunity for restart. The company learned from the experience and continued to grow. In 2014, it moved to Eifflerstraße, occupying 1,400 sqm, more than five times its initial size.
During the pandemic, betahaus Hamburg expanded its Schanze location to nearly 3,000 sqm. This expansion, along with the opening of its third branch in 2025, adding over 2,000 sqm of space, demonstrates the company's resilience and commitment to growth. betahaus Hamburg also opened its second location, betahaus HafenCity, in 2019.
Over the past 15 years, betahaus Hamburg has grown from a small 250 sqm space to nearly 3,000 sqm across three locations. It has played a central role in the city's startup scene, contributing to its growth and vibrancy. As the company celebrates its anniversary, it looks forward to continued expansion and supporting the city's entrepreneurial community.
