Archaeological discoveries made unintentionally by rocket enthusiasts as they dug into the earth's depths, unveiling remarkable historical artifacts hidden beneath.
The Polish city of Kalisz has been the hub of an exciting archaeological adventure this summer, as the metal detecting group Denar Kalisz unearthed two ancient treasures during a summerlong expedition in the European countryside.
The first treasure was discovered on June 7 by group member Hubert Piasecki, and it included 631 artifacts from the early Middle Ages. The findings, which were made at the site of Biskupin in Poland, have been hailed as an archaeological sensation in the country.
The treasure trove included clay pots filled with coins, silver artifacts, and an 1,800-year-old Roman gold necklace that weighed approximately 222 grams. The collection also featured cross denarii, foreign coins such as English ones (including from King Harold I of England), as well as German, Hungarian, Czech coins, and others.
Just a few weeks later, on June 28, another treasure was found by group member Michał Makuch. The exact contents of the second treasure have not been fully disclosed, but it is known to contain silver coins.
The group Denar Kalisz, which started as a rocket hunting group, has been searching for treasure for over two decades. Group leader Kurowiak, who cooperates with professional archaeologists during excavations, is proud of the group's discoveries and believes they are right and important.
Denar Kalisz has an international following, including some American fans, and their discoveries have put Poland on the map for exciting archaeological finds. In addition to the treasures uncovered by Denar Kalisz, Poland has seen several other significant discoveries recently. An elite knight's burial was recently uncovered in Gdańsk, and a centuries-old ring was found earlier this summer at Wawel Royal Castle in Krakow.
All artifacts found by Denar Kalisz are handed over to Poland's Conservator of Monuments and the Museum of the Kalisz Region, where they will be preserved and studied for future generations to appreciate. The latest treasure finds by Denar Kalisz serve as a testament to the rich history and archaeological significance of Poland.
