SeeYou isn't just a first in Romania - it's a vital response to the urban accessibility issues that impact over 84,000 visually impaired citizens, as reported by the developers. By offering guided outings, SeeYou considerably reduces social isolation and increases the visibility of visually impaired individuals in urban life.
Following a successful pilot phase in Bucharest, SeeYou is now expanding to Cluj-Napoca as of May 23, with the backing of the Romanian Association of the Blind's local branch. The updated version comes packed with new features, such as invitation exchanges between users and guides, an option to connect with guides of the same gender, and full English language support for international users.
Alex Cucu, AMAIS Tech Lead and one of the app's developers (who happens to be visually impaired himself), said, "SeeYou is an indispensable tool, opening up opportunities and fostering a more connected social and professional life for people with visual impairments."
The app is completely free and can be downloaded from Seeyou.ro, Google Play, and the App Store. Users can plan outings based on necessity or pleasure - from visits to government offices to leisurely strolls in the park.
To qualify, beneficiaries must be aged 18 or over and present documentation confirming their disability. All guides undergo manual verification for safety purposes. Once paired, users can request remote assistance, like document reading, or even engage in a friendly chat if they're feeling lonely.
Since its inception, over 360 people – both beneficiaries and guides – have utilized SeeYou to make cities more inclusive for all.
