Announcement for Parking Event in 2025
On Thursday, September 18th, the street Grabbestraße in Detmold will be transformed for the PARKing Day event. This initiative, started by the German Child Protection Foundation "Hänsel und Gretel", aims to reimagine public spaces and demonstrate the value of urban areas for community, sustainability, and creative city planning.
From 1pm to 6pm, selected parking spaces in Grabbestraße will be temporarily transformed into lively spaces, offering a variety of activities for all ages. The city's public transport company, Stadtverkehr Detmold (SVD), will provide a Bobbycar course, while the F.I.T. mobile will offer various play options for children.
The event, named "Infos, Fun and Games: Public Space Reimagined", will also feature discussions about sustainable mobility and future-oriented urban planning. Employees from the city portal's traffic planning department will be on site to collect ideas for future urban planning, and a team from the municipal civil engineering planning will inform about flood protection measures during the event.
Those attending can look forward to a relaxed atmosphere, with the adjacent café Halbstark providing drinks and music throughout the day. The event is designed to send a clear signal for more quality of life in the city and show how public spaces can be used for culture, relaxation, and social interaction.
The International PARKing Day was launched 20 years ago in San Francisco with the goal of creatively questioning the use of public spaces and showcasing alternatives to the car as the dominant means of transport. This year, Detmold joins the global movement, adding a European flair to the celebration.
Please note that the event in Detmold is not a recurring event. It is scheduled for a specific date, September 18th, and is open to all. So, mark your calendars and join us in Grabbestraße for a day of fun, information, and inspiration!
