Celebrating 30 Years of the Ringgleis Project: A Family-Friendly Festival in Braunschweig
This August, Braunschweig is set to host a special event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Ringgleis Project. The festivities will take place on the 23rd and 24th at Westbahnhof, and the event is primarily designed for children.
The Ringgleis Project, an initiative that began in the 1990s, aims to preserve and transform the old Ringgleis track into a recreational path, maintaining the city's historical character. Over the years, this green corridor has evolved into a vibrant cultural space, offering a unique blend of history, nature, and urban life.
The children's event will include a variety of activities, such as play areas, face painting, a juggling workshop, and rickshaw rides on the Ringgleis path. There will also be a discovery tour "On the Trail of Nature" in the Birkenwald, as well as a stage program featuring puppet theater, dance, and music.
Admission to all events is free, and the Ringgleis Project activities are managed by the Braunschweig forum e.V. The festival is part of the coordinated activities celebrating the 30th anniversary of the "Ringgleis Project" and is funded by the "Social City Westliches Ringgebiet" program.
In addition to the children's event, the Ringgleis festival will feature a photo exhibition by the Braunschweig forum, showcasing the structural development of the Ringgleis path over the years. The KufA-Haus, "Garden without Borders", Kontorhaus, "Anti-Rust" association, neighborhood management plankontor, and other Ringgleis residents will also be participating in the event.
For more information, visit the website www.ringgleis.de. The traditional Ringgleis flea market will host information stands and interviews from various institutions and the Ringgleis planning team on Sunday, starting from 11:00 at the Westbahnhof area.
The children's run at the event will be 1 km long and starts at 13:00. Coffee and cake, as well as other treats, will be available at the simultaneous summer festival of the "Garden without Borders" and in the bistro of the KufA-Haus.
