Affordable TV Payment Plan: Sky Glass Air Now Officially Available for £6 Monthly Installments
Introducing the latest addition to Sky's TV lineup—the budget-friendly Glass Air, launched alongside the upgraded Glass Gen 2 back in February. Unlike its premium counterpart, the Glass Air promises a more affordable price tag, all while delivering the full Sky service built directly into the TV.
Just like the Glass Gen 2, this new model skips on extra boxes and setup, making it a hassle-free setup for cord-cutters. However, it's the price that could draw all the attention! With a starting price of £6 per month, the 4K Glass Air undercuts the Glass Gen 2 by a noteworthy £8, offering Sky's most budget-friendly television offering yet. On the 10th of June, you can get your hands on this sleek device.
But what makes it different, you ask? The audio system has seen some adjustments. Sporting conventional built-in speakers with Dolby Audio processing, it forgoes the seven-speaker Dolby Atmos found in the Glass Gen 2. This alteration leads to a thinner profile for the Glass Air, with a price that mirrors its streamlined design. The device will be accessible in 43, 55, and 65-inch sizes, with finishes in Cotton White, Carbon Grey, and Sea Green.
The display isn't shabby either, featuring a 4K HDR Quantum Dot panel with global dimming and contrast enhancement. Although its specs hint at a slightly different implementation compared to the Gen 2's full-array LED backlight with enhanced local dimming zones, Sky hasn't shared exact brightness levels or detailed backlight configurations. So, we'll keep you posted with our full review, which dives deeper into its strengths and weaknesses.
The internals remain consistent, as both models run on Sky OS software and support voice control through "Hello Sky" commands. Although connectivity details are yet to be revealed, we doubt it'll have as advanced features as, say, four HDMI 2.1 ports.
The pricing, as with all Sky devices, follows their established structure across various payment options. You can pay interest-free monthly installments for 48 months: £6 for 43-inch, £10 for 55-inch, and £13 for 65-inch models. For those preferring shorter commitments, there are 24-month contracts available for £12, £20, and £26, respectively.
If you're a new customer, you can bundle the Glass Air with a Sky Essential TV subscription (£15 per month) for a total entry point of £21. This includes access to Sky TV programming, as well as Netflix and Discovery+. If you're already a Sky customer, pricing may vary.
The Glass Air becomes available through Sky's direct channels and Currys online starting from the 10th of June and 19th of June, respectively. Stay tuned as our review dives deeper to see if this budget-friendly beauty is worth your time.
